I offer 3 lectures and a variety of workshops focusing on techniques and processes. I also offer a few project-orientated workshops. Surface design, machine art, a variety of ability levels and time frames are all available. If your guild has a specific request, I can custom design a workshop. Looking Up and Out - A Creative Journey
A powerpoint presentation along with selected quilts will acquaint the audience with Judy's progression into wearables and art quilts. Various techniques for surface design and machine art will be covered along with an interesting account of her creative journey - it's light, it's personal and informative.

Creative Inkjet Printing on Fabric
Have you ever been curious how to transfer photos to fabric and THEN…what to do with them. This lecture will cover everything you need and want to know for transferring photos to fabric, creative ways to use photos/digital imagery, creating fabric from imagery for piecing and incorporating other fabrics from your stash. It’s fun, interesting and informative.

Endless Inspirations
Ideas and inspirations for quilts and wearables, this presentation will inspire audience as to where and how other quilters get inspirations for the work they do. Both garments and quilts will be covered. Audience will leave with new ideas and interesting ways to approach their own quilt art. Samples of quilts will be shown.

Introduction to Machine Needlelace
Students will be introduced to the free motion technique of machine needlelace, making samples of lace in an applique, lace without an applique, overlays and dimensional wired lace petals and butterflies.

Wonderful Textures
Students will explore the many possibilities for creating texture through the use of stitching and fabric manipulation. Thread and fabric crimping, thread fuzzies, thread flowers, shisha circles, starbursts and twin needle work will be covered.

Full-Day Workshops

Birds, Butterflies and Bobbin Work
Students will start a small piece of either birds or butterflies while learning bobbin work techniques. Working with fusible web and a simple machine applique stitch along with bobbin techniques such as bobbin stumpwork, bobbin stippling, curls and bobbin beading to complete the piece.

Creative Machine Applique
Students will learn the many creative ways to appliqué by machine, also covered - machine tensions and what makes a pleasing stitch, stabilizers and fusibles. Some techniques covered are traditional and free motion appliqué, invisible appliqué, wild zigzag, decorative edge, buttonhole stitch and others if time permits.

Dimensional and Off the Edge Applique
Students will start a small wall hanging using nature theme appliqués. Using water soluble stabilizer, students will create dimensional freestanding appliqué parts as well as appliqués that hang off the edge. Further embellishment will be covered. Several patterns provided

Layered Nature-scapes
Students will start a small piece using bright nature colored fabrics, sheers and layering techniques. A bright colored background with fused nature designs on top, painting silk organza for the next layer and finishing with more design elements. It’s a sheer - opaque mixing of fabric and placement to create incredible dimension in the finished piece.

Shaded Florals
Students will create a beautiful floral piece using values of one color in prints and solids, paint sticks and decorative threads. Paintstiks and stencils will provide the shading, decorative threads add the finishing touch.

Nature to Paper to Fabric
Students will create a foundation pieced backdrop out of nature colored fabrics.  Leaf transfer sheets featuring Autumn leaves, purchased from the instructor will be used to embellish the top.  Students will learn the basics of foundation piecing as well as the process of using Image Transfer Paper. Silk -  a wonderful fabric for image transferring, can be purchased from the instructor
