Galleries and Process
I start by creating a mottled background on muslin or a 7 oz. single weave canvas (available at art supply stores) using small amounts of Procion dye and a designated microwave. I prefer the canvas for its coarser weave. This process gives subtle visual movement to the fabric.
I build on this backdrop by adding screened images, stamping, marks and sheer overlays. Documents and pictures are manipulated and layered in a photo editing program to create interesting imagery.
If applique work is used, it's laid down next, followed by a variety of machine techniques including applique, bobbin work, embroidery and free motion work.
