Artist Statement
The drive to become a fiber artist was greatly influenced by my family who made everything with their sewing machines. Because of the many tools available to artists today, I've been able to pursue avenues not available to them. I work intuitively, pulling inspiration from the things I love such as old family pictures and papers, textured rocks, peeling paint and crumbling stones on sidewalks and buildings, things that have endured the elements of time, interesting but not necessarily beautiful. I am also inspired by the beautiful colors and textures of nature.
My camera is always with me, ready to capture these wonderful things. This imagery is printed, embellished and combined with other surface design techniques to create a unique piece.
My current work uses photography, image layering and many different transfer processes. Both documents and pictures provide an interesting backdrop for organic subject matter.
